Looking to achieve the Modern American Farmhouse look in your home? Read our tips here!
Farmhouse-inspired interior design has been around for a very long time. (Long before certain DIY shows made it famous.) White walls, timber beams, and contrasting metals embody this eclectic mix of contemporary and country, calm and cozy. The Modern American Farmhouse style lends itself to a variety of applications - especially in your new Brown Haven home.
What Is a Modern Farmhouse?
Essentially, it is a more sophisticated take on traditional country style. The farmhouse interior design has specific features that help create a relaxed vibe and a cohesive and curated style. The ideal modern farmhouse style should balance practicality and rustic elegance. Michelle’s Curated Collection showcases her take on the Modern American Farmhouse look, achieving the perfect combination of contemporary minimalism mixed with a warm, relaxed, and rustic look.
Neutral Color Palette
Neutral color palettes are the base for the contemporary component of this style. Shades of whites, creams, and grays. For accent colors, you can choose anything, but in muted tones to achieve the nature-inspired feel that embodies modern farmhouse interior design. Think light greens, pale blues, or earth tones.
Materials & Finishes
Think rural, distressed, or natural. From weathered wood to handmade tiles, distressed finishes instantly say “rustic farmhouse”. A brick wall. Exposed beams. For a kitchen think simple cabinetry paired with cool metallic hardware and pared-back natural wood furniture.
Metals
Feel free to mix metals (gold, black, silver) in the same space. Brushed or matte finishes work well for farmhouses since they match any other distressed surfaces. Gunmetal grey or matte black is a go-to in farmhouse interior design, adding a rustic feel as well as elegance and contrast.
Textures
Mixing different textures is one of farmhouse design’s hallmarks. Furniture with distressed surfaces. Materials such as raffia, leather, linen, and velvet. Textiles like natural fiber rugs, knitted blankets, and faux-fur pillows. All help create a layered and timeless look.
Accessories & Decor
Juxtaposing modern with vintage is an easy way to achieve the modern farmhouse look – and add your own personality. Vintage mirrors are popular, as are country-inspired landscapes and botanical prints. Curated accessories add farmhouse vibes, without adding clutter. Flea markets and antique stores are great places to find authentic pieces that add just the right touch.
