Thoroughly clean appliances (dishwasher, toaster oven, etc.) and then unplug them

Wash towels and linens, fold, and keep them stored

Throw away all of the perishable items in your refrigerator and pantry

Replace the batteries in fire alarms, thermostats, security systems, etc. and turn on the alarm

Cover the drains in your sinks and baths with a stopper

Pause utility services while you are away

Remove porch furniture and store in your garage or home

Arrange for a trusted neighbor to check in on your home periodically

Set up outdoor furniture

Clean the bathrooms and run linens and towels through the wash

Stock your fridge and pantry (who doesn’t love this step?)

Change/clean the filter in your A/C unit
